WireGuard is an open-source VPN protocol initially developed by Jason Donenfeld and released in 2015. It is known for being modern, fast, robust, and lightweight—making it ideal for our Fast mode in the NymVPN app.
Now compatible with all major operating systems and devices, WireGuard has been widely adopted by many VPN services to help protect users’ data and privacy.
Key features of WireGuard
- Open-source: WireGuard’s code is publicly available, ensuring transparency and allowing the global community to audit and address potential vulnerabilities quickly.
- High-speed performance: Renowned for its speed, WireGuard leverages high-speed cryptographic primitives.
- State-of-art cryptography: Reviewed by top cryptographers, it uses robust cryptographic protocols such as the Noise protocol framework, Curve25519, ChaCha20, Poly1305, BLAKE2, and SipHash24. Learn more with NymVPN’s comprehensive encryption guide.
